Funeral services for Mr. Oliver Jefferson, 62 of Marshall will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday August 27, 2011 at Miles Memorial CME Church in Marshall with Rev. Wilburt Hall, Sr. and Rev. Truman Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in Algoma Cemetery South. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m., Friday August 26, 2011 at Downs Funeral Home. Mr. Jefferson passed away at Longview Regional Medical Center on Friday, August 19, 2011.
He was born to the late Booker T. Jefferson, Sr. and Clotia Timmons Jefferson on July 27, 1949 in McDade, Louisiana (Bossier Parrish) and grew up in Elm Grove, Louisiana and had lived in Pittsburg, Texas before settling in Marshall. He attended Princeton Schools where he graduated and then attended LSU for two years. He also completed three years of extended education. Oliver worked at AEP/Swepco for 30+ years before retiring in June 2010 as Operations Superintendant for Pirkey Power Plant. He was a longtime member of the CME Church, with his last church home being Miles Memorial CME Church until his death.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Catherine (Cathy) Jefferson of Marshall, TX; three daughters, Tammara (Paul) Bowers and Christina Jefferson both of Marshall, TX and Melissa Jefferson of Houston, TX; his adopted daughter/ sister-in-law and son-in-law, Daisy (Kenneth) Bates of Pittsburg, TX; his grand boys, DeVonte’ Oliver Jefferson and Quindon Oliver Jefferson- Bowers both of Marshall, TX; two brothers, Ira (Lula Mae) and Leroy (Vergie) Jefferson of Haughton, LA; two sisters, Ida B. Sams of Houston, TX and Piccola McDaniel of Dallas, TX; another sister-in-law, Barbara (Joe) Price of Shreveport, LA; four brothers-in-law, Clyde, Authur (Gloria), Kenneth of Shreveport, LA and Nathaniel (Neicy) Cornelius of North Little Rock, AR; two special friends, Aaron (Alberta) Davis and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Oliver was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Booker T. (Jr.) and John Jefferson and a sister, Zenobia Spurling.
Serving as pallbearers will be John L. Jones, Pastor Donald Rushings, Lougene Hortman, Bonnie Woods, Lowey Cole, Dewey Cole, John High and Bobby Jo Thompson.
