Funeral services for Alice Margaret Shannon, 88, of Marshall, Texas, will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 1, 2014, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Dr. Randy Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow in Colonial Gardens Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Downs Funeral Home. Mrs. Shannon passed away November 27, 2014 at Oakwood House. Alice Margaret Ladd Shannon was born September 27, 1926 in Rock Rapids, Iowa to Earl and Minnie Serck Ladd. She was a graduate of Rock Rapids, Iowa High School. Mrs. Shannon was dedicated to her faith, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed traveling. Mrs. Shannon was a member of Summit United Methodist Church. Surviving Mrs. Shannon are her children, Doug Shannon and wife Susan, Janet Wolfe; son-in-law, Steve Chambers; grandchildren, Chadd Chambers and wife Stefany, Shannon Blassingame and husband Robert, Colt Chambers, Danny Nixon and wife Kim, Jason Nixon and wife Rosa, Rachael McWhirt and husband Chad, Kari DeWitt and husband Travis, Erin Shannon, Michael Shannon; 14 great grandchildren; special friend, Ethel Chambers "Grandmama"; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Preceding Mrs. Shannon in death were her parents; daughter, Sheila Chambers; son-in-law, Roger Wolfe; sister, Louise Benz; brother, Edward Ladd; and her loyal and dedicated dog, Sam. Pallbearers will be Chadd Chambers, Robert Blassingame, Colt Chambers, Danny Nixon, Jason Nixon, Michael Shannon, Steve Chambers and Daniel Nixon, Jr. The family wishes to give special thanks to Karen of Southern Care Hospice, and the entire Staff of Oakwood House.
