Dr. Alva Mae H. Welick, 79, loving wife, mother, auntie and grandmother and adopted Mom to those around the world, left a legacy that will only be fully realized when we all stand in Heaven. Committed to serving God with every ounce of her soul in every activity she glorified God faithfully in every detail till September 16, 2010. Around the noon hour, she joined her loving husband (Joe Welick), her daughter (Rebekah Wills) and pastor singing gospel songs. She opened her eyes, looke upward seeing the host of angels there to receive her, relaxed and smiled and went on to be with our Lord Jesus. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Ander and Ada Harville; her brother (Lee Edward Harville), and sister (Ernestine Downs). Survived by her wonderful loving husband of 30 years (Joseph P. Welick); her children, Beverly Gerorge, Robert Hollandsworth, Deborah Johnson Holdr and Rebekah Wills; Grandchildren, Douglas James Johnson, Michael Joseph Johnson, Caleb Ross Johnson and Julie Hollandsworth Bushyhead. In addition, she is survived by her loving sister (Melline Havens, 85), her treasured sister-in-law (Castella Harville), many nieces and nephews she treasured such as Heidi, Carmen, Eddie, Morris, Barbara to name a few; sister and brother-in-law, James (86) & Melba (82) Hollandsworth with niece Cindy Ross; and so many others cousins, nieces, nephews and life long friends around the world she counted as her extended family. She raised he children in a Godly home, strict and loving, and made sure that they all knew and served the Lord first, then to help and serve others as often as they could. They remember singing in Rest Homes at early ages; learning and playing musical instruments or singing the songs of old that still resonate in their hearts today. She rested in comfort that God held each of her children and grandchildren, spouses in the palm of His hand. There was never a doubt of where she was going and prepared her family well for this. It was to be a time of joyful jubilation of her going Home to continue her service to the Lord. Deborah shared that though Mom gave us our past, more importantly she will be part of our future. Alva Mae never allowed age to be a factor in any of her decisions. Starting from the fields of cotton in small rule towns in Mississippi of which her family worked each year, to the far reaches of small tribal villages in India and Africa, she left her footprint of being God's servant. No task was too large or small. If there was one person or 10,000 people to hear the word of God, share a song from the heart or a home cooked meal; she and her loving husband prepared and delivered it with the full passion being God's Servants. She touched many hearts through passion as a teacher. As a retired elementary teacher from Bossier City, LA; she caught the dream of further education. Starting in her mid-50's she completed two Master Degree programs, and two Doctorial programs to prepare he for her future travels and ministries. She served in Nigeria, Africa; assisting building a school and church; teaching many the love of Jesus. She then realized a childhood dream to go to India. There for many years on various assignments, teaching in Bible schools, starting adult literacy programs, planting churches, singing and preaching in Gospel crusades, she worked tirelessly in three states in India sharing the Good News of Jesus. Alva Mae discovered the George family in Kerala to who were some of the first pioneers of the Gospel Movement in India. She was instrumental in joining our families; through James and Beverly George some sixteen years ago. Their work continues today through the many avenues they helped to develop and establish from their hard work, sacrifices and personal recourses to further the kingdom of God. He heart for missions continued in Sri Lanka after the Tsunami in Sri Lanka assisting in building an orphanage, handing food and shoes to the thousands of displaced and orphaned children from this terrible disaster Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 10AM at Harleton Cornerstone Church & Cemetery, her final resting place. Pastor Charlotte Riddle, long time friend and supporter of their ministries, will be the officiating pastor; joined by Rev. Mae Carter of Marshall, Texas with some of her Gospel Singing Members joining in Gospel Jubilation. The family will greet guest and friends at the Cornerstone Church & Cemetery thirty minutes prior to the service at the grave site. She died Thursday, September 16, 2010 in Tucson, Arizona.
