Arlene Oleta Jones, 82, of Waskom, Texas was born on April 26, 1939 to her parents, Richard Christian Matthews and Lillie Louise Helm Matthews. Arlene passed away peacefully on May 10, 2021 surrounded by her husband, son Ronald and daughter in love Jennifer. Arlene was raised on a farm in West Texas where she grew up to be rough and tough. Arlene loved sports, camping, waterskiing and was quite the hustler at horseshoes. From time to time she was known to enjoy a cold Coors Light and some watermelon. She enjoyed cooking, most of which was from scratch and memory, rarely using a recipe. Everyone loved her cooking. She was well known all over for her chocolate chip cookies. Above all Arlene most enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Arlene is survived by her husband, DI Jones; children, Ronald Jones and wife Jennifer, Greg Jones; brother, Robert Matthews; sister, Rosalee King and husband Al; grandchildren, Chris Laurence and wife Natalie, Cody Jones and wife Shelbi, Chelsa Hill and husband Lance, Ty Jones, Brandon Strickland, Kyle Strickland and wife Rachel; great-grandchildren, Eden Laurence, Emme Laurence, Boston Jones, Jensen Jones, Easton Strickland and Tate Strickland; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Arlene is preceded in death by her parents, Richard Christian Matthews and Lillie Louise Helm Matthews; sister, Gladys Griffith; sister in love, Mauriene Matthews; and daughter in love Janie Jones.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Marshall Manor Nursing Home and Heart to Heart Hospice.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the National Autism Association or Alzheimer's Association.
