A funeral Service for Barbra Ann Newhouse Washington will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Mt. Zion Spiritual Church #2, Marshall, Texas. Viewing will take place Friday, February 26, 2016 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at Downs Funeral Home.

Barbra Ann Newhouse Washington, the daughter of John Erik Newhouse and Nell C. Smith, was born on October 16, 1944 in Marshall, TX. She was educated in the Marshall Public School Systems.

Barbra, Ms. Barbra, BobAnn, Bain and Bear, as she was affectionately known, was a very giving and passionate woman of God. She was amazingly devoted to family and friends, giving selflessly of herself. Her love and passion was expanded when she met and married the love of her life, Lorenza Benard Washington Sr., on May 31, 1967. The union remained for 44 years until his passing on August 22, 2011.

Barbara's true gift of love, devotion and commitment was shown as she raised, loved and nurtured her two children, who loved her to life for her endless sacrifices. Born to her unbroken union, were Lorenza Benard Washington Jr. (Karen) and Bertina Anquinette Washington Else (Steven).

A devout and faithful Christian, she united with Canaan Missionary Baptist Church of Marshall, TX, where she served faithfully on the usher board for 18 years until she was moved by the spirit of God to join by Christian experience, Mt. Zion Spiritual Church #2, where she served until her death.

Not only was she committed to family and friends but to her work. For 31 years, she was employed by the Marshall Independent School District until retiring in June, 2011. She was known for her art of cooking, her love of bingo, crossword and word search puzzles. Barbra's genuineness, her warming smile, her words of confidence, gentle hugs, wise counsel and quiet demeanor will be missed.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Alice Faye McAfee and Dorothy Jean Newhouse Smith. She leaves to honor her memory: her children, her grandchildren, Amory Washington, Gwendolyn Else, Dylan Washington and Sanara Else; her sisters, Mary Parish, Karlene (Oliver) Hurd both of Marshall, TX; Catherine (Randolph) Boyd of Dallas, TX and one brother Erik (Freddie) Newhouse of Dallas, TX as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
