Ruth Hollingshead A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs.Ruth Hollingshead, 91, of Marshall will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Denzil Vithanage officiating. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 7th at the Downs Funeral Home. Mrs. Hollingshead passed away Sunday, February 05, 2012 in Marshall. Beatrice Ruth Hollingshead was born to Joseph Schmitz and Frieda Weisshaar Schmitz on February 24, 1920 in Eldon, Iowa. She met Cecil Ira Hollingshead while working for the 11th Naval District at an Automotive Parts Warehouse in downtown San Diego, and they were married on October 1, 1945 at the St. Joseph's Cathedral in San Diego, California. She studied art at Robert E. Lee Junior College in Baytown and was tutored by Sybill Bates. She graduated from Franklin Jones Nursing School in Marshall and worked as a LVN at Memorial Hospital for a number of years, she was also a homemaker raising her four children. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Piecemakers Quilt Guild, St. Joseph's Church Guild, Legion of Mary, Westwood Home Extension Club, and the Marshall Art League. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of sixty-six years, Cecil I. Hollingshead of Marshall; sons and daughters-in-law, James Joseph Hollingshead and wife Sherri of Waskom, Paul Thomas Hollingshead and wife Davlyn of Marshall, and Daniel H. Hollingshead and wife Phyllis, also of Marshall; daughter Cecilia Hollingshead Newman of Marshall; ten grandchildren, Kimberly Carole and husband Scott Wall, Adrienne Teresa and husband Jeff Peace, Tiffannee Cassandra and husband Shaun Watson, Jared Lee Hollingshead and wife Lena, Jonathon Chase Hollingshead and wife Samantha, Harold Jay Newman, II and wife Sharon, Joshua Hollingshead and wife Cassie, Jennifer Ruth Newman, Stormy (Dawn) Hollingshead,and Holly Hollingshead. Also surviving Mrs. Hollingshead are twenty-three great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers,Carl, Walter, and Raymond "Rex" Schmitz. Serving as pallbearers are her grandson Scott Wall,Jared Hollingshead,Jeff Peace, Joshua Hollingshead,and Harold Jay Newman. Honorary pallbears will be Shaun Watson and Jonathon Hollingshead,
