Obituary

A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Benny Alford, 77, of Waskom, Texas will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Faith Independent Baptist Church of Waskom. Mr. Alford passed away Saturday morning at his home with his loving family by his side.

Benny Alford was born December 06, 1939 to Robert and Wauneta Alford in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He graduated from College High in 1958. In November of 1958, Benny married Della Mae Burkart of Dewey, Oklahoma. Benny was employed at Leonard Printing in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. While working for the printing company, Benny decided to attend classes at Oklahoma State University Technical Branch in Okmulgee, Oklahoma from 1965 – 1967, earning a Commercial Art Degree. After college he was employed with Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. In 1968 Benny moved his family to Assaria, Kansas where he taught Commercial Art at the Salina Area Vocational Technical Training School. In June of 1972 they moved to Ore City, Texas and started Studio A, a commercial art studio. Just after Christmas in 1974 they moved to Waskom, Texas. After moving to Waskom, Benny saw a real need for rental housing and started A & A Home Rentals. He continued to operate Studio A until his retirement.

At the age of 21, Benny committed his life to Christ. From that day forward, he was active in his church and the communities they lived. He enjoyed working in church youth programs, and shared his art talents and knowledge with many over the years.

Benny was a faithful servant at Faith Baptist Church in Waskom. From overseeing the building construction to teaching bible lessons, Benny was present and giving of his time. He put his heart and soul into every task. Benny cared deeply for everyone he came in contact with. He had a burden to see souls saved and souls serving Christ. He will be forever missed and can never be replaced. To God be the glory for his wonderful life.

Surviving Benny is his loving wife of 58 years, Della Mae Alford; son, Chris Alford and wife, Kelly; daughter, Kim Hanks and husband, Cliff; son, Scott Alford; brother, Gene Alford and wife, Gwen; grandchildren, Matt Alford, Marshal Alford, Blake Hanks, Trey Hanks, Heather Alford, and Whitney Alford; great-grandchildren, Alice Alford, Derick Alford, Payton Myers and Carson Myers.

Benny is preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Pamela Joleen Alford.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hearts Way Hospice of Marshall for their assistance and help they have provided during this difficult time. We would also like to thank our friends and church family for their visits, help and prayers.
