Betty Jane
White
Jan 29, 1926 — Mar 23, 2017
A Funeral Service for Betty Bostick White, 91, of Marshall will be held at 3:00p.m., Sunday, March 26, 2017 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service in Colonial Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. White passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Marshall.
Betty Bostick White was born January 29, 1926 in a little house on highway 59, north of Marshall. Betty was very proud of her heritage and loved to share stories of growing up on the north side of Marshall. She began attending services at Summit United Methodist Church at an early age and was the longest serving member at her time of death.
As a young girl Betty received a book of bible verses after having recited more verses than any other member in attendance. She carried that book in her purse every day and this past Christmas she gave a copy to all of her children and grandchildren. Betty told them all it was the word to live by, and she lived every day of her life putting God first.
Betty received her education from Marshall public schools and attended East Texas Baptist College. Betty married the love of her life, Bill White on March 11, 1945. They would spend the next 43 years loving and caring for one another until Bill's passing in 1988. Betty would continue to remain active in church circles, the Literary Club, and Eastern Star. She loved spending time with friends and playing bridge. Betty enjoyed sharing stories and even at the age of 91, Betty was sharp as a tack. She never had an unkind word for anyone and loved everyone she met. Betty will be missed by all who knew her.
Preceding Betty in death are her parents, Samuel and Frankie Bostick; husband, Bill White; sister, Selma Brandley; brothers, Sam and Jack Bostick; daughter, Becky Fyffe; grandsons, Tim Fyffe and Tony Fyffe; great-granddaughter, Colby Vernon; granddaughter-in-law, Amy Nash, and several nieces and nephews.
