Billie
Beckner
Nov 28, 1926 — Dec 29, 2018
Billie Jean Armstrong Beckner went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, December 29th. She was born on November 28, 1926 in Marshall, Texas to Willie DuBose Armstrong and Mittie Donald Armstrong. She graduated from Carthage High School. She married Emil Edward Beckner on March 21, 1946 and together they had one son, Donald.
She was employed at Lady and King Solomon Shop for a few years and retired from Brownrigg Insurance Agency after 25 years of service. Having such an outgoing personality Billie enjoyed working in the public. She was a member of Bel Air Baptist Church and loved her church family dearly. She enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School and always made sure the great grandchildren attended with her. She served her community delivering Meals on Wheels for several years. She could always be seen working in her lawn and beautiful flower beds. She always took great pride in them and everything had to be done just so so.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; her parents and sisters Elizabeth Poss and Frances Eakin.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Donald and Sharon Beckner; grandson Rowdy Beckner and wife Edie; granddaughter Becky George; great grandchildren, Dustin VanSchoyck, Dalton George and Sydney Beckner; great great granddaughter Kensley VanSchoyck; nieces Jane Clabaugh (Billy) of Carthage and Judy Adkison of Timpson; several great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Marshall Hospice, Dr. Kimberly Barbolla, very special hospice nurse Paula Kirby and Benita Armstrong for all the loving care and attention shown to Billie. Also the family appreciates the staff at Oakwood House for taking care of her. Many thanks to Ida Bell Githning and Charity, Gloria Johnson and Sandy Agers, the sitters she had at home before going to Oakwood House.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 1 at Downs Funeral Home from 6 to 8. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 2 at 11 a.m. at Downs Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Antioch Cemetery in Carthage, Texas.
