Obituary

Billie Jane "Beasley" Moran Wasdin, 91, peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025 in Elysian Fields, Texas. She was a wise, Christian woman and a wonderful and patient mother and wife who was devoted to her family and community. Billie was a well-loved substitute teacher in the Elysian Fields school district and an active member of New Hebron Baptist Church in Elysian Fields, Texas.

Billie was born on January 11, 1934 in Austin Texas to Solan Alton "Bill" Moran and Ada "Jane" Cantwell. She was the eldest of four children and was predominantly raised in Austin, Texas. She graduated from Austin High School, worked as a telephone operator, and in 1952, Billie married Robert Lamar "Was" Wasdin who was stationed in Austin with the United States Air Force. Together they raised four children and were stationed in Texas, Michigan, Louisiana, Kansas, Iran, and the Philippines. She and "Was" were known to enjoy square dancing and music. In 1977, as "Was" approached his retirement as Chief Master Seargeant from the Air Force, he, Billie, and their youngest daughter Chris worked to make a new home at Wachibi Farm in Elysian Fields, Texas. Here they grew an enviable garden, raised chickens, pigs, and black angus cattle. They built a beautiful life together that blessed their generations. Their farm was a sanctuary for their family. They joined New Hebron Baptist Church where they were active members and made many friends.

Billie was a smart, kind, caring, and patient mother and grandmother who chose her words carefully. She had a forgiving and understanding way about her. When a glass would break, she'd say she never liked that one anyway. She demonstrated both spiritual and physical strength, setting the example for her family. Every morning, Billie could be found in her den, studying her Bible. She enjoyed working to her garden, was a great cook, and she loved to read from her cultivated home library. Her gift as a seamstress kept many of her children and grandchildren in the most popular fashions. She was also skilled at solving jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Well into her eighties, Billie would mow her own grass on her riding lawn mower and tend to what she could at the farm. She also enjoyed traveling and did so at every opportunity. Most importantly, she loved all her children "a bushel and a peck."

Billie is survived by her four children: Nicki Lanman, Vicki and her husband Rick Pitts, MSgt. (Ret.), Scott Wasdin, Capt. (Ret.) and his wife Martina, and Christine Wasdin, Col. (Ret.). She is also survived by ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and by her siblings Jeannie Estepp and Kenneth Moran. She is preceded in death by her parents Bill and Jane Moran, and her sister Jo Ann Reeves.

A memorial service with reception to follow will be held at New Hebron Baptist Church in Elysian Fields, TX on Wednesday February 5, 2025 at 11am. After the reception, the family welcomes all who would like to attend to Wachibi Farm to place Billie to rest with "Was" over their land. A marker will be placed at Panola Mt. Zion Cemetery in DeBerry, Texas next to her husband.
