A graveside service for Bobby (Bob) Vern Gossett, 90, of DeBerry, Texas, will be held at 1;00 p.m., Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Rehobeth Cemetery in Carthage, Texas. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at Downs Funeral Home in Marshall, Texas. Mr. Gossett died of natural causes on Thursday, Jun 9, 2022, in Shreveport LA.
Our beloved Papa was born March 21, 1932, to Mary Lois and James Vernon Gossett in Henderson Texas where he was the first born of three boys. He grew up in the countryside where he had a very humble beginning. He ate what they grew, went barefoot to school, and used a coal oil lamp at night. His mother made him catch the school bus every day and resulted in his graduation from Henderson High School in 1950.
Papa's early career was in the Air Force where he served for many years in active duty and Air Force Reserves and achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant at Carswell Air Force Base. Next, he worked in civil service as a Quality Assurance Specialist for the General Services Administration. During his 42-year career, Papa was always planning his retirement. He wanted a piece of land, house, cattle, garden and lots of tractors and equipment. This he achieved and is his legacy for his children and grandchildren.
Papa was always a farmer at heart. He got his start by helping his father in the fields. He was skilled with a hoe and could shell peas faster than most. He always had a garden and shared vegetables, fruit and pecans with family and neighbors. Papa's wish for his children and grandchildren was to have some small love of farming in their hearts.
Papa married Carol Forshee on July 25, 1952, and was married for 55 years until Carol's passing. Papa worked hard to provide for his wife and three children, Suzie, Dona and John. He wanted to give them more than what he had when growing up. Together, Papa and Carol built many homes and began building the current farm for future generations.
In later years Papa married Willie Collie on August 14, 2010. This immediately grew the family by two more children, Warren and Kathleen. Married for 12 years, Papa and Willie enjoyed their retirement with dancing, fishing adventures, working on the farm, and going on trail rides.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Vernon and Mary Lois Gossett; brothers, Autry Gossett and Donny Gossett and Carol Forshee Gossett, first wife of 55 years.
He is survived by his wife, Willie Gossett; children, Sue Baack of Houston, Texas, Dona Logan and husband, Yale of Ft. Worth, Texas and John Gossett and wife, Rita of DeBerry, Texas; step-children, Kathleen Kraemer and husband, Dr. Mark Kraemer of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Warren Collie of Marshall, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild along with numerous other family and friends.
Papa will be remembered for what he taught us through his own love of God, love of family, patience, understanding, work ethic, and desire to do it right.
Our Papa was dearly loved by his family and friends. He will be missed and more importantly remembered as The Man, The Myth, The Legend.
Pallbearers, Bobby Gossett, Bradley Gossett, Thor Partoui, Mark Kraemer, Warren Collie and Ryan Herr. Honorary Pallbearer, Graham Herr.
