Brenda Joyce Matthews Sutton, 55, departed this life to be claimed by the Lord on Thursday October 17, 2013 in Marshall, TX after a five year struggle with cancer, which showcased her true strength, while surrounded by her family. Brenda was born June 12, 1958 in Midland, TX to Kenneth & Joyce Matthews. However, her roots run deep in Harrison County as a sixth generation Marshallite. She earned her LVN nursing degree at Panola College, where she acquired the skills that ultimately led her to provide loving care for Alzheimer's patients. She was a devoted employee who worked extra shifts on a regular basis to care for her patients and provide for her family. She was best known for loving her children, animals, gardening, and artistic drawing and had a great sense of humor, especially during hard times. Brenda is survived by her mother, Joyce Matthews of Marshall, TX; sister, Angela Matthews of Corinth, TX; two sons and daughter-in-law, Clinton & Trista (Cromer) Muse of Orlando, FL and Cody Muse of Marshall, TX; granddaughter Ashlyn Muse of Orlando, FL; and was looking forward to the arrival of her second granddaughter Alena Muse, due on December 17th. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Amber Muse of Texarkana, TX; father, Kenneth W. Matthews of Marshall, TX; past fiancé; grandparents Vernon & Julie (Lewis) Matthews of Elkhart, TX; and Atley & Beulah (Heard) Callaway of Marshall, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be given to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. As a special request, Brenda asked everyone to routinely seek cancer checkups, to stop cancer before it claims another life. Please honor her wishes by getting routine blood work and scans.
