He married Patricia Ann Morton Oney on August 14, 1964, in Marshall, Texas and they remained married until her passing. He and Patricia both retired from the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe. He loved to golf and never missed a chance to go out and eat. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns and the Texas Rangers. He loved watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play ball and would always holler at them and say, "Hustle Russell." He loved staying at the Bloom and served there by preaching. He was a family man and loved them all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and Phoebe Oney; wife, Pat Oney and brothers, Leon Oney, Aaron Oney and Alton Oney along with his best companion, Romo.

He is survived by his children, Vicky Snead and husband, Philip, James Oney and wife, Michelle and Mark Oney and wife, Lisa; sister, Shirley George and husband, Carl; grandchildren, Lee Ann Molloy and husband, Pete, Jessica Roberts and husband, Jonathan, Brooklynn Oney and Will Law, Jamison Oney, Nathan Oney, and Katelynn Oney and great grandchildren, Wyatt Molloy, Charlee Jane Roberts, Jayden Molloy and Alec Molloy along with numerous other family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Bloom Bossier, Ochsner LSU ICU, and Bristol Hospice for the high level of care that they provided dad. Especially the staff at Bloom Bossier who made dad, mom, Romo, and our family always feel loved, welcomed, and well cared for.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his honor to the Alzheimer's Association and or the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe.
