Obituary

Carolyn (Hawthorne) Gorman, 78, of Marshall, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026. She was born on April 2, 1947, and spent her life surrounding those she loved with warmth, laughter, and kindness.

Carolyn retired, after many years, at Lucent Technologies and later retired from Marshall Independent School District, where she built many friendships and touched the lives of those around her. While she valued her work, it was the time spent with family and friends that truly meant the most to her.

Carolyn had a creative spirit and a deep love for quilting and sewing, often stitching together beautiful quilts that became treasured keepsakes for those she loved. She enjoyed playing board games and dominoes, gathering around the table with friends and family where laughter and stories were always plentiful. She also loved traveling to new places, making memories along the way with the people who meant the most to her.

More than anything, Carolyn cherished her family. Her great-grandchildren brought her endless joy, and she loved every opportunity to spoil them, watch them grow, and share in the small moments that made life so special.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, William Edward Hawthorne; her mother, Mary "Maggie" Winbury Wilson; and her siblings, Pat Barron, Kay DeSoto, Dwight Miller, Joyce Shackleford, and Eddie Hawthorne.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Jill McKinnon and husband, John; her grandsons, Kevin McKinnon and wife, Tabitha, and Tyler McKinnon and wife Kelsey; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Waylon McKinnon, Avery McKinnon, and Spencer McKinnon.

She is also survived by her siblings, P.C. "Sonny" Miller, Sandra Hooker, Marilyn Oney, and Gary Hawthorne, along with many friends who will deeply miss her friendship and the joy she brought to their lives.

Carolyn will be remembered for her loving heart and welcoming spirit. The memories she created around the quilting chair, the game table, and during travels with loved ones will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A service to celebrate Carolyn's life will be held on March 16, 2026, at Down's Funeral Home in Marshall, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, with the service to follow at 11:00 AM.

Though she will be deeply missed, the love she shared and the memories she created will remain a lasting gift to her family and friends.
