Obituary – Catherine Nelson

Catherine Ruby Nelson of Waskom, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 9, 2018. She was born in Haynesville, LA on July 24, 1934. She lived a long and happy life of 84 years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, William "Bill" J. Nelson, Sr. of 34 years. Also preceded in death were her parents Leonard Pernell and Gracie Lee Benefield; siblings: an infant brother; an infant sister Jerry Wanda; brother Junior Benefield; and sisters Helen "Mutt" Robinson, Patsy Byrd and Shirley Ann Hubbard

To cherish her memory, she is survived by daughter Wanda Tharpe and husband Dennis; son William J. Nelson, Jr. and daughter Jackie Watson of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Survived by grandchildren Sheila Ford and husband Tommy; Chris Tharpe and wife Lauren; Amy Kent and husband Gene; Brooke Nelson; Jeremy Watson and wife Jennifer; and Jennie Watson, along with several great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Survived by sisters Louise Driver and Nancy Cheatham; brother Jimmy Benefield; and a host of nieces and nephews.

On March 14, 1955, Catherine married the love of her life, Bill. Her life was centered around being a Navy wife, raising three children and impacting the lives of her many grandchildren. Family was her pride and joy, which we all felt and will carry with us. She loved and therefore taught us to love.

A special thank you to her church family of First Baptist Waskom for their continued love and prayers during this special time. We would also like to recognize the amazing care from the nursing staff of the WK Pierremont during her last days.

And lastly, words are inadequate to describe the love and care her brother Jimmy has shown for the last 23 years. He wasn't just her brother, he was her constant companion and best friend. She was truly blessed.
