Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday, June 24th at the Downs Funeral Home in Marshall. Mr. Coats passed away on June 21, 2013 at his residence in Karnack. Charles "Chuck" Vance Coats Sr. was born October 21, 1945 in Baird, Tx to James B. Coats and Letha Doris Eager Coats. He graduated from Pecos High School in Pecos, Texas. Chuck then attended Cogell School of Radiology in Snyder, Texas. Upon graduation he was hired by Marshall Memorial Hospital in Marshall, Tx. where he worked until he became head of Radiology. He later left that location to establish Coats Pottery where he enjoyed selling, his main passion. He traveled extensively in his business for many years but after the birth of his son, he sold the business and went back to medical field. Chuck worked at Presbytrian Hospital of Greenville working weekends so that he could be home with his son during the week. He served as scout master, room mother, counselor, and mentor during Vance's elementary and junior high school years. He was a doting father, attending baseball games and karate tournaments. Chuck finished his career at Good Shepard Hospital in Marshall, Tx where he retired in 2008. After a year of 6 Saturdays, he got bored and went to work driving a city bus where he made many friends. He left that after 2 years to live on Caddo Lake. During his life Chuck never met a stranger. He had a wonderful, outgoing personality and would do anything for anyone. He loved, his wife, his son, and his church, and he will be missed by all. Surviving Mr. Coats are his wife, Mrs. Cheryl Kay Coats of Karnack; one son, Charles Vance Coats, Jr. of Texarkana, Texas; two brothers, James B. Coats, Jr. & wife Susan of Moore, Oklahoma, and John J. Coats of Midland, Texas; one sister, Carla Repman & husband Chris of Midland, Texas, and a number of nieces and nephews.
