David Brent McCarty was born on January 17, 1949, in Marshall, Texas to William Moore McCarty and Marzell Jensen McCarty and passed away on February 16, 2026, at his home in Marshall.

He was a true Marshallite, being born, raised and living out his life in Marshall, Texas. He enjoyed rodeos, hunting anything pertaining to yard work and was known by the neighborhood as "the old man on the lawnmower." He was a UT Longhorns fan and enjoyed frying turkeys and barbequing. He worked at T&P Railroad as a signalman maintainer and for Missouri Pacific. He was a member and Union Rep of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalman Local #141. He also worked at Marshall T&P Federal Credit Union as President for 30 years and was a Supervisory Board Member. He was an Alcoholics Anonymous member with 38 years of sobriety. His love was working with children and was a member of CASA of Harrison County from 2009 to 2016, becoming a board member in 2017. He served as Awana Commander at Cypress Valley Bible Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marzell McCarty and his brother, Butch McCarty.

He is survived by his wife, Donna McCarty; children, Mac McCarty, Dell Ann "Bunny" Teschendorf and Jeff Cook (Monique); sisters-in-law, Pam Dotson (Jeff) and Janis Richards; brothers-in-law, Dale Burns (Mickey) and CR Simpler; grandchildren, Madison Cook and Morgan Cook; favorite nieces, Ali Pool, Raegan McAdams, Carma Smith and Kim Henderson and great nephew, Mason Burke along numerous cousins and other family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 28, 2026, at The Grange at 2955 Grangeway Rd., Marshall, Texas 75672.
