Obituary

Harold David McClendon, age 77, passed away to Glory on March 22, 2025, at UT Southwest Clements Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

Harold was born on February 13, 1948, in Marshall, Texas. He was the son of James Richard McClendon and Mary Alice Rhodes McClendon.

He was a lifelong resident of Harrison County. He attended school in Marshall and in Elysian Fields. He was on the football team in both locations and was said to be a terror to opposing teams.

He had a love for heavy equipment and his first job after the hayfield was with Harrison County Road and Bridge. He had a very good eye for dirt work and excelled in operating maintainers and dozers at the county. He loved animals of all kinds. He loved checking on the cows several times a day and putting out cattle cubes and hay. Over the years there were chickens, goats, pigs and even ferrets under his care. Maggie the rat terrier was his constant companion while checking the cows on the side by side. He worked as a firefighter for the Marshall Fire Department and later Morton Thiokol. Through his work at Thiokol, he got the chance to work for the US Government in the Middle East and the South Pacific. He worked in the Marshall Islands where he rode out Typhoon Zelda with a few other volunteers to keep vital equipment running during the storm. He was awarded an Army Commendation for his action.

He was preceded in death by parents, James and Mary McClendon and brothers, James R. (Jimmy) McClendon and Asa E. (Sonny) McClendon

He is survived by his sons, Chris, Scott and Pat McClendon; daughter-in-law, Rhonda McClendon; granddaughters, Audrey and Juliet McClendon, Christina White and Amelia Daughtry along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and other friends and family.
