Dorothy Jean Newhouse Smith was born on October 23, 1942 in Marshall, Texas to the late Erik (John) Newhouse and Nell (Smith) Newhouse. She passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2015 surrounded by her family. "Di Jean", as she was affectionately known, was educated in the Marshall Independent School District, and was a 1960 graduate of H.B. Pemberton High School. She united with the Canaan Baptist Church at an early age and later united with Mt. Zion Spiritual #2 Church where she was active in Sunday School and was faithful in worship service until her health failed. She was employed as a CAN at Colonial Park Nursing Home in Marshall. On November 11,1961, Dorothy united in holy matrimony with Mr. Adair Smith, Jr. To this union, seven children were born. She is preceded in death by her husband and parents. She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 sons, Adair Jr. and Calvin of Marshall; 5 daughters, Tina (Tony) Edwards, Gail (Reggie) Cooper, Demetria (Barry) Turner, Janis (George) Davidson, Sandra Smith, all of Marshall; 21 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Erick (Freddie) Newhouse of Dallas; 5 sisters, Alice Fay McCafee of Houston, Katherine (Randolph) Boyd of Dallas, Mary Parish, Barbra Washington and Kathryn (Oliver) Hurd, all of Marshall; 6 aunts; 1 uncle; and a host of other relatives and friends, including special friend, Willie Lester.
