Obituary

A memorial service for Dorothy Parker will be held Friday, August 31, 2018 at 3:00p.m. The service is hosted by Marshall Homecare and Hospice.

Dorothy Parker went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 15 th , 2018. She was born December 11 th , 1928 in Ore City, Texas to Roger (Rogie) Samuel Melton and Annie Minor Melton. She grew up the younger of their two daughters. Her elder sister, Reitha Nell Minor Mattox and Dorothy held a special life-long bond especially during their joint stay in Marshall Manor Nursing and Rehab.

Dorothy graduated early from New Dianna High School and attended the St. Mary's Business College of Marshall where she excelled in obtaining her business skills.

Dorothy worked as the Chief Telephone Operator for the South Central Bell Telephone Company as well as working in record keeping and accounting for the Carrington Motor Company and Montgomery Ward.

She married John Byron Parker, Jr., our Pappy, on March 7 th , 1947 at the Karnack Methodist Church. They were married for sixty-one years until his death in 2008.

Dorothy, our NeeNaw, was preciously artistic, hardworking, loving wife, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor, and friend.

Dorothy was the effervescence mother to Terry Ann Parker Ennis, Cherry Diane Parker Parrish, and her youngest son, John Bradley Parker.

She worked full time raising twin daughters and her boy. Her young family participated in church fellowship at Fairview Baptist Church in Marshall and later became long time members of Port Caddo Baptist Church in Marshall.

Dorothy has an extreme love of art. She was a talented artist for all of her life evidence of those artist talents live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dorothy loved gardening and pond fishing on her home property, caring for her growing family, and making trips east to Shreveport-Bossier City with her Sister-In-Law, Aunt Tissie. Dorothy was a beautiful dresser with a classic taste tailored for her petite figure. NeeNaw was the doting grandmother and great-grandmother who always had cake for her loved ones to enjoy or a junior bacon cheeseburger from Wendy's. She could cook a meal with anything and everything. She always had pleasant correspondences that ended with a gentle and loving peck on the cheek, which will be dearly missed.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, John Bryon "Pappy" Parker, her only sister, Reitha Nell Minor Mattox, and her brother-in-law, Joseph Lemuel Mattox. Dorothy is survived by her children, Terry Parker Ennis and husband, Ronnie, Cherry Parker Parrish and husband, Don and John Bradley Parker and wife, Debbie, her granddaughters, Shelley Parrish Reynolds and husband, Mark, Karis Parrish Locke and husband, Heath, Chelsea Nicole Parker and Abby Leigh Parker; her great-grandchildren, Kannan Parker Reynolds, Byron Parrish Locke, Annie Elizabeth Locke, Rusty Reynolds and Allison Reynolds. She is also survived by Niece Wanda Mattox Born, Tommy and Billy Don Mattox; nephews; bother-in-law and wife, Wayne and Becky Parker.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the compassion, thoughtfulness, and comfort offered by our friends and well-wishers.

We would like to offer a special thanks to Marshall Homecare and Hospice for their attentive, patience, and caring service to our NeeNaw and our family in our time of need.

The family would also like to thank the residents and staff members of Oakwood House Assisted Living, who had become such importantly positive relationships to our Dorothy. It had truly become her second home. You have all become like family, it means so much to see NeeNaw thrive in your social environment. Thank you to Jodi Beavers for her art activities that mother enjoyed. It is a blessing to have her artistic creations from all stages of life.
