Elmer Ray George, 89, of Marshall, Texas went to be with the Lord on November 11, 2016.

Services for Elmer Ray will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Downs Funeral Home in Marshall, Texas with Brother Kenneth Flanagan officiating. Interment will be at Liberty Cemetery in Harleton, Texas. A time of visitation for family and friends will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2016

Elmer was born September 11, 1927, in Mooringsport, Louisiana to Walter Lane George and Zadie Stella Fried George. He received his education in the Harleton Public Schools. He married Fairest Opal Flanagan July 21, 1952. They made Marshall, Texas their home. Elmer was the owner of A-1 Plumbing Company before retiring to be a cattleman and timber producer.   He was a member of Clearview Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas. Elmer was a lover of nature and took his daily walks to enjoy the beauty of the earth and loved fishing. He has touched many hearts and will be remembered for his strength as a loving father, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Fairest Opal Flanagan George, his children, Claudia Inman (David) of Hallsville, Judy George Seals of Harleton, Allen George (Shelley), Angelie George Jones, Dona Rae George all from Marshall, and Bruce O'Neil George (Kerri) of Spring Branch.

Grandchildren are Jennifer Inman of Hallsville, Alicia George Hudson (Shawn), of Houston, Candice George Crawford (James), of Cypress, Brett George (Kristen) of Friendship, Wisconsin; Andy Seals (Kristin) of Spring, Selena Seals Nealy (Preston) of Harleton, Mary Jones Belcher (Keith) of Cypress, Angela Jones Mentz (Billy) of Harleton, Chris Jones, Virginia Opal Jones both from Marshall, Brandee George Cross (Colin) of Phoenix, Arizona, Brooklyn George Bolton (Aryn) of Waco, and Kalon Anthony of Grapevine.

Great Grandchildren include Luke, Chris, Rachel, Caroline, Jackson, Allie, Aven, Kayela, Julie, Jase, Grace, Morgan, Joseph, Lauren, Ashley, Beau, Sawyer, Landry, and Carter.

Brother and sisters surviving are Benjamin (B.W.) Walter George, Gilbert Daniel George (Jody), Carl Denver George (Shirley) all of Marshall, Stella George Landers of Hallsville, Lucy George Nolan of Florida, Mary George Mixson (George) of Beeville, Arnol Lee George (Lou) of Longview, sister in law Francis George of Marshall, and many nephews and nieces, brother and sister in laws, extended family members and friends whom he all loved.

Elmer Ray was preceded in death by his daughter Pamela Rae George, father Walter Lane George, mother Zadie Stella Fried George, brother Raburn Lane George, brother Jessie Newton George, brother Edmon (Peck) Eugene George, sister Margaret Nell George Davis Humphries, sister Eva Jane George, son in law Alvin Lee Jones and son in law Stuart Lynn Seals.
