Funeral services for Eddie Benson, 67, of Marshall, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 13, 2015, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Bro. Matt Paul officiating. Interment will follow in Center Cemetery in Harleton. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Downs Funeral Home. Mr. Benson passed away March 7, 2015 in Marshall. Eddie Benson was born July 6, 1947, in Marshall, TX, to Galen and Hazel Tucker Benson. Eddie served his country in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam Conflict, and was a double Purple Heart recipient. He worked as a master craftsman. Eddie enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and playing with his grand babies. He built beautiful cabinets. Surviving Eddie are his children, Lisa Benson Allison of Hazelwood, MO, Scottie Bryan Benson of Livingston, and Kristina Davis of Waskom; grandchildren, Tabatha Conn, Rebecca Valadijia, Joshua Valadijia, Brandi Alexander, Joshua Peathel, Michael McCarty, Kolby Benson, Kelsie Campbell; 2 great grandchildren; siblings, Linda Heflin (Ron) of Vivian, LA, Sandra Thompson (Quincy) of Marshall, Deborah Stewart (Phil) of Marshall, David Benson of Rusk, Regina Payne (Mal) of Round Rock; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mike Benson; and brother-in-law, Jim Oney. Pallbearers will be Michael McCarty, Kolby Benson, Kenneth Davis, Jeff Oney, Daniel Oney and Vern Allison. Honorary pallbearers are Joshua Peathel and Glen Benson.
