Graveside services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2014 in Memory Park Cemetery in Longview, Texas. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home. Evelyn (Mabry) Brock was the wife of Morris F. Brock for 63 years and a mother. Evelyn was born in Crystal City, Texas on January 22, 1933 to Dawson and Deliah Mabry and went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 1, 2014. She lived most of her life with her parents or grandparents until her high school years. During high school she moved to Longview and lived with her step-mother, Lena Mabry and her brother, Johnny in a small home filled with an abundance of love. Evelyn attended schools in Crystal City and Texarkana, but graduated from Longview High School in 1949, as a member of the National Honor Society. Evelyn was a fast and accurate typist and worked as a secretary in her younger years and then after the children were grown reentered the workforce as a medical transcriptionist at Sullivan and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. On October 27, 1950 she married Morris Brock and to their union was born seven children. As her children came along she became a stay-at-home mom, always wanting to be there for them; never were children loved more than these. Evelyn's interests were her family and church. Her husband pastored in seven different Baptist churches in Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas during their marriage and she served alongside him supporting the ministry as a secretary, and a Sunday school teacher. She was a talented cook, and put together a cookbook of family favorites which she gifted to her family during a reunion. She was a seamstress, an artist and did beautiful handwork which she gifted to family and friends to mark weddings, births and holidays. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a very dry wit and loved her family enough to make sure they didn't take themselves too seriously. She said beautiful prayers; gifts for those who heard her talk to her Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dawson and Deliah Mabry, her mother and father-in-law, Frank and Mattie Pearl Brock, sweet Lena Mabry, her brother, Jerry Mabry of Payson, Arizona, and her sister-in-law, Barbara Spann. She is survived by her husband, Morris Brock; children, Alan and Brenda (Brock) Bunch of Palisade, Colorado, Dave and Martha (Brock) Palovick of Nixa, Missouri, David and Rebecca Brock of Dripping Springs, Texas, Kenneth and Rebecca (Brock) Shuman of Tomball, Texas, Paul and Charlotte Brock of Sawyer, Oklahoma, Jeff and Sara (Brock) Moore of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Steve Brock of Kyle, Texas; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Johnny Mabry and wife Cindy; sisters Carrie Lee Martin of Longview and Teresa May and husband Harold also of Longview; brother-in-law, James Spann of Surprise, Arizona and sister-in-law, Renee Mabry of Payson, Arizona. In honor of Evelyn's life, charitable contributions may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church, Marshall, Texas or to East Texas Baptist University, Class of 1954.
