Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 18, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Denzil Vithanage officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Downs Funeral Home, with the rosary beginning at 5:30 p.m. Evelyn O. Hellberg Crowell was born June 24, 1919 to Philip and Helene Hellberg. She left today, November 13, 2013 to be with her Almighty Savior and reunite with her husband. Evelyn attended South Marshall School and graduated from Marshall High School in 1938. Evelyn met her sweetheart, Charles "Chili" Crowell, fell in love and married on April 12, 1939. Of this marriage of sixty-three years, God blessed them with five children: Charlotte Sneed, Tommy Crowell, Margaret Darby, Charles Crowell, Jr., and Pamela Brocato. The most important things to Evelyn were God and her family. Living across the street from St. Mary's Academy was an adventure. She not only cared for her own children; she cared for many bumps, bruises and cuts of many school children. She had such a welcoming smile that it made others smile. To give an example of her care, love and kindness: she cared for her mother-in-law for many years. Then she brought her own mother into her home and cared for her. She fed the homeless who knocked on her front door. She was always ready to cook a meal for anyone in need. Her family rests assured that she will be rewarded for her many good deeds. She was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters. During retirement she enjoyed playing cards once a week with her lady friends. Pallbearers are her eight grandsons: Alan Sneed, Aaron Sneed, John Darby, Bryan Darby, Craig Darby, Grant Crowell, Trey Brocato and Nick Brocato. A special thanks to Dr. Valerie Allman, Stephanie Goree, Edna Sparks of CareTeam, Faith Hospice and Many at Heritage House.
