Graveside funeral services for  Evie Matthys Zell, 74 of Marshall will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 15, 2018 at Colonial Gardens Cemetery in Marshall with Bro. James Fleet officiating.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, October 14th at Downs Funeral Home.  Evie was born October 17, 1943 to Atrell Smith and Bill Moore in Center, Texas.  She passed away at her residence in Marshall on Friday, October 12, 2018.

Evie was a lifetime member of Marshall Elks Club.  She enjoyed cooking and just being with her family and friends. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She enjoyed going to the horse races.  She was very outgoing and loved talking to anyone and everyone, and just getting to know them.

She is survived by her son, Jason Matthys; her two daughters, Cindy George, and Jan (Randall) Carter; sisters, Kathy (Jerry) Surratt, and Evelyn (Claude) Escud'e; grandchildren, Nick DeRosier, Heather Carter, and Randy Carter; great grandchildren, Katie DeRosier, Amber DeRosier, Damian DeRosier, MaKenzie Carter, and Kinsler Carter.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Rodney Matthys, Sr. and Gerd Zell; parents, Bill and Atrell Moore; sons, Rodney Glen Matthys, and Donald Matthys, Jr.; brother, Billy Moore; sisters, Ruby Layton, and Joyce Watkins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marshall Hospice in her memory.
