Obituary

Gary Jo Fugate Jr, age 36, known as "Jo" by all who loved and knew him best, joined his Lord and Savior peacefully on New Year's Day 1-1-2018 after an unexpected illness. Jo was born in Austin, TX on May 14, 1981 to Phalby B. Norris of Marshall, TX, and Gary Jo Fugate of Kermit, TX. The family moved from Austin to Hutto, TX, when Jo was 4 years old and he graduated from Hutto High School, home of the Hippos. Jo relocated to Marshall in 2011; his first job was with Spradling Construction, and he always remained close to the owners. He also worked with other contractors and made many friends along the way. Mechanic work was his passion. To repair or rebuild anything with wheels gave him great joy. Jo loved the outdoors. He never missed an opportunity to go fishing whether fresh or saltwater. His hands were strong but agile to tackle the most tedious or delicate task, and his patience was a virtue. Jo was a simple man, often misunderstood, and acquiring material possessions was of no importance. He had a kind giving spirit, quick to lend a hand to anyone needing help, and whenever his phone rang; he would dart out the door to offer assistance. He was known to give a stranger a ride, buy them food, or give them the clothes off his back.

Jo is survived by his brother/best friend, Jeremy Chad Fugate; mother, Phalby Norris Porter; step-father, Charles L. Porter Jr all of Marshall; grandmother, Leona Fugate of Denver city, Texas; uncle, Dale Fugate of Roswell N. Mex; aunt, Debbie Kay Owen of Port Orange, FL; nephew, Konnar Fugate of Round Rock, TX; step-sister, Stephanie Porter; step-brother, Phillip Porter (Tracy) of Pflugerville, TX; a host of cousins, and last but not least his most devoted and constant companion (German Shepard dog), Abraham. He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Ruth Emma Merritt Beehn; grandparents, Phalby Beehn Norris/ Clarence Albert Norris of Marshall; Grandfather Billy Jo Fugate, and father Gary Jo Fugate.
