George Randle Bailey, Sr. was born July 16, 1930 in Shreveport, Louisiana, to William and Essie Bailey. He was a graduate of Fair Park High School in Shreveport, and attended Louisiana College and East Texas Baptist College. He married the love of his life, Geraldine Creech, in 1949, and together they had 3 children----Randy Bailey, Bill Bailey, and Terri Bailey.

George served in some of the larger churches of the Southern Baptist Convention as Music Director, Education Director, and Associate Pastor. He concluded his 60+ years of ministry as the Pastor of Belcher Baptist, where he served for over 16 years. He was also a successful businessman in the Shreveport area for many years, receiving multiple business awards.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine, and his son Bill, as well as grandchild Aimee Renee Bailey, and great grandchild Smith Randle Bailey. Surviving Mr. Bailey are his son Randy Bailey and his wife Nancy of McKinney, Texas; his daughter Terri Wilson and her husband Ray from Marshall, Texas; daughter-in-law Desiree Bailey from Cheyenne, Wyoming; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

In his younger years George loved Golf and fast pitch softball, and throughout his life he always had a good joke to tell. He impacted the lives of many in our region and around the world, including participation in Billy Graham outreaches in the Philippines. He passed away April 1 st in Marshall, Texas surrounded by his loving family.
The memorial service for Mr. Bailey will be held Tuesday, April 5th at 2 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home in Marshall, TX.  A visitation will precede the service at 1 p.m.
