Obituary

Funeral services for Gerry Bostick, 94, will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 29, 2012 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Blackstone officiating. Burial will follow at Colonial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 28 from 6-8 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home. Mrs. Bostick was born September 26, 1917 in Elysian Fields, the daughter of A.N. Beaty and Mittie Bagley Beaty. She died July 26, 2012. She was a direct descendent of the oldest pioneer family in Harrison County, The Beaty Family. Sarah Amaryllis Beaty is thought to be the first white child born in the present limits of the county. Mrs. Bostick received her education in Elysian Fields Schools before attending Business College. She married Harold Melton Bostick on May 15, 1938 in Atlanta, Texas. After her husband's death in January of 1970, Mrs. Bostick worked at St. Mark's United Methodist Church as a kindergarten teacher. She was also a very active and loyal member of The Congregation of St. Marks, and has previously been recognized as the church's most tenured member. She also served as playground coordinator for First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bostick was also involved in many organizations throughout the community. She built and established many relationships with parents throughout Marshall, and her main focus in life was teaching, caring for and loving children. Mrs. Bostick was a woman of pure, unselfish love. Always eager to help anyone in need, her compassion was overwhelming. She excelled as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Although she will be greatly missed by her family and friends, we take great comfort in knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she loved with all her heart. Mrs. Bostick was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, brothers Addison and Wendell Beaty, and her beloved son, Harold Kenneth Bostick. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Bostick Webb and husband Tom of Bossier City, Louisiana and Sarah Bostick Hasty and husband Reggie of Jefferson. Grandchildren are Susan Patterson of Bossier City, Robbie Roberson of Bossier City, Ronny LaRue of Lufkin and Holly Hasty of Jefferson. Great-grandchildren include Kenny Loftin of Bossier City, Joshua Roberson and Skylar Roberson both of Bossier City, and Lindsey and Lauren LaRue both of Lufkin. Pallbearers will be Michael Botzong, David Thomas, Russell Beaty, Kenny Loftin, Joe Hood and Pat Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be Arthur Bagley, Bobby Metcalf, and Leonard Eaves.
