A time of visitation for Glen D. Jewett, 78, of Marshall and Rowlett, Texas will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Downs Funeral Home. Glen Don Jewett, 78, died from complications of pneumonia Tuesday April 30, 2013, at Mesquite Specialty Hospital in Mesquite, Texas. Glen and his wife, June, were former residents of Marshall, Texas but moved to Rowlett, Texas in 2008 to be closer to family. Glen was born June 21, 1934, in Jefferson City, MO,. To Mildred Parker Jewett. At the age of seventeen, Glen joined the U.S. Air Force. While stationed at Barksdale AFB, LA., Glen met the love of his life, Mildred June McKinnon from Marshall, and married in February 1954. After twenty-two years of military service, including a tour during the Vietnam War, Glen retired from the Air Force in 1973 and moved his family to Marshall, where he was employed by Witco Chemical and worked another twenty-three before retiring to hit the road traveling and camping with June and beloved pet dog, Scooter, in their motor coach. Glen and June were members of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Marshall. Glen is best known by his family and friends as a practical joker, hard worker and for keeping an immaculate yard. He especially enjoyed working with his hands and was a constant "piddler" fixing things, even after suffering a stroke many years ago that impaired his vision and ability to read. The greatest legacy Glen left his children is the knowledge of how much he loved and cared for their mother, especially with the debilitating effects Alzheimer's has had on her life in recent years. Every day was filled with butterfly kisses, a game of charades to fill in missing words and the reassuring exchange of words, "I love you". Glen is survived by his wife, June; daughter, Terrie (Karl) Mutchnik; son, Glen (Dominique) Jewett; grandchildren, Andrew and Alex Jewett and Geoffrey and Alden Mutchnik; and sister, Wanda Cleavenger. Glen was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Parker Jewett Monroe; and sister, Jo Ann Kelsey.
