Funeral services for Harper Young, 76, of Waskom, TX will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 19, 2014 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Coburn officiating. Interment will follow in Scottsville Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Downs Funeral Home. Mr. Young passed away June 17, 2014 in Marshall. Harper Young was born August 12, 1937 in Waskom, TX to Nicolas Cook Young and Verna Cargill Young. Mr. Young was a graduate of Marshall High School. He served his country in the National Guard, and was a quality inspector for Bell Helicopter in Ft. Worth, TX. Mr. Young was a member of Bethel Methodist of Elysian Fields, and the Elks Club of Tyler. He enjoyed boating, fishing, water skiing, 4-wheelers, garage sales, riding his tractor, bulldozing and RVing. Surviving Mr. Young are his daughters, Jeri Linn Hall and husband Michael of Plano, TX, Lauri Stapp and husband Rod of Plano, TX, and Patti Diane Hancock and husband Scott of Canyon Lake, TX; granddaughter, Jennifer Linnell Cashman and husband Lucas; and his companion, Beverly Hayes of Jonesville, TX. Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Everitt Young; and uncle William Henry "Bubba" Cargill.
