Funeral services for Mr. Herbert Collins, 76, of Jefferson will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2011 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Britton officiating. Interment will be in Eagle Creek Cemetery. Mr. Collins passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011 in Longview. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, April 18th at the Downs Funeral Home. Herbert Collins was born November 5, 1934 in Corinth Arkansas to Herbert Mack Collins, Sr. and Rosalie Coleman Collins. He attended school in Harleton and New Diana. He married Linda Chaney on December 2, 1972 in Longview, Texas. He served his country in the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a deputy for Harrison County for several years, worked for the Kilgore Police Dept for two years, served as a Reserve Deputy for Gregg County, worked for Jefferson Police Dept for two years, then worked for Malakoff PD for four years, Trinidad PD for a few years, Marion County Sheriff's Dept for 15 years, and served the last four years as Marion County Constable retiring in 2009. He also served from 1998 to present on the Harleton Volunteer Fire Dept, where he served as Captain for a few years. He was a past member of the Harleton Masonic Lodge for a number of years. He is survived by his wife Linda Collins of Jefferson, daughters Rhonda Hutchins of Jefferson, Corliss Collins of Longview, Roxanne Powers of Carey NC, Sarah Beavers of Longview, sons Dwayne Collins of Longview, and Toby Collins of Karnack. Also surviving Mr. Collins are his brothers Charles Collins & Donnie Collins of Athens, and sister Mary Grace Byrne of Pecos, 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
