Obituary

Jack Welch, 77 of Marshall, Tx, passed away of ALS on February 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 12, 1948, Jack lived a full and spirited life defined by devotion to his family, steadfast loyalty to his friends, and an unwavering love for Jesus and his beloved LSU Tigers.

A diehard fan through and through, Jack could always be found cheering on the Tigers with passion and pride. Saturdays in the fall were sacred, filled with purple and gold, lively conversations, and the unmistakable excitement that came with every LSU victory. His love for the team was more than a pastime—it was a tradition he proudly shared with his children and grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Johnnie Gibson Lanier; his father, Melvin Welch; and his grandsons, Brayden Grant and Travis Weaver.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength through his devoted wife, Denise Douglas Welch; his children, Racy Kane (Michael), Jeff Welch (Ashley), and Brad Welch. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Holden Grant (Jennifer), Camden Grant, Taylor Welch, Madison Bristow, Hannah Welch, Sydney Welch, Dylan Welch, Landen Grant, Alyson Welch, and Mason Bristow; great-grandchildren, Zoey Grant, Noah Grant, and Blakely Grant.  A loving son to Carolyn Welch Rust and a fun loving brother to siblings Karen (Ray) Sellers, Dana Douglas, Sandy (Snoot) McGuire, Chris (Robin) Welch, and Eddie (Christine) Douglas; and a Jack Jack to Josh (Desire) Haggard, Haley Haggard, Owen Douglas, Cole Douglas, Oliver Haggard, Stella Haggard, Jaxon Haggard; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack will be remembered for his steady presence, his generous heart, his quick wit, and the deep love he held for his family. Whether sharing stories, offering guidance, talking sports, or sharing his faith in Jesus, he was always the life of the party and the biggest [and best] personality in the room.

He loved his church, Mobberly Baptist Church Marshall, where he was often seen greeting churchgoers at the front doors. His legacy lives on in his faith, the strong family he built, and the countless memories they will treasure forever.

A life well lived, a man well loved, and a Tiger fan forever.
