Jean Jones Mathison was born August 12, 1932 to Motis and Ruth Jones in Streetman, Texas. Jean and husband, Matt moved to Wichita Falls, Texas for a short time before moving to Marshall where she lived for 56 years. Marshall was home to Jean. This is where she fostered friendships and raised her family. Jean was active in the Marshall community serving on the board at the local Humane Society (Pet Place), a member of the Eastern Star and St. Marks Methodist Church. One of her favorite activities, she and her beloved dog, Princess, visited the nursing home regularly providing "pet therapy" to patients. Jean loved animals and over the years she adopted many dogs and cats. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family.

Preceding Jean in death is her husband, James C. (Matt) Mathison; her parents, a brother and sisters.

Those left to cherish the warm memories of Jean Mathison are her son, Steven Mathison and wife, Jamie of Carrollton, Texas; daughter, Starla Pelz and husband, Charles of Marshall, Texas; granddaughter, Krista Mathison of Carrollton, Texas; grandson, Matt Mathison of Round Rock, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.

Jean's request was that donations be made to Safe Haven Horse Rescue, 4994 FM 2088, Gilmer, Texas 75644.
