Jeannene Little Short left this life on May 30, 2023, at the age of 80 in her home in Elysian Fields, Texas.

She was born in Marshall, Texas on October 6, 1942, the youngest of two daughters to William L. (Buck) Little and Irene Martin Little. She was raised in Elysian Fields and graduated from Elysian Fields High School in 1960. She excelled in academics, tennis and basketball. She then attended Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. In 1963, she relocated to Dallas and became a legal secretary for a patent law firm for twelve years.

In 1967, Jeannene married Billy J. Short. They are the parents to three children, Mike Short, Shannon Earl and Wynn Short. In 1975, the family came back to Elysian Fields where she pursued a career in banking for thirty years and retired from Capital One Bank in Elysian Fields, Texas.

She loved sharing her home with everyone. She was very generous and had cookouts and pool parties for family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and spent many hours canning hot sauce, pickles, corn and pea relish, mustard and jellies which she used to fill baskets to give away each Christmas. Another tradition at Christmas was to make big pots of chili and soup and invite the community to just stop by and have a bowl. Over the years she was involved in many community, school and church projects. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and reading numerous newspapers every day.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Buck and Irene Little; her husband, Billy Short; brother-in-law, Dr. Joe E. Smith and niece Sherry Smith.

Those left to cherish her memory are sons, Mike Short, his wife, Jennifer and their children, Mackenzie, Lawson, Madison, Tucker, Murphy and Dooley; their spouses and 15 grandchildren and Wynn Short and grandson, Kaden Short; her daughter, Shannon Earl and husband, Keith and their children, Sam Earl, Cheyenne Dickson and her husband, Jeb and son Kasey Earl and wife, Amanda and their daughter, Emmy Lou Earl.

The family would like to thank Marshall Homecare and Hospice and caregiver, Donna Page for the wonderful care that was given to their mother.

Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Elysian Fields Cemetery in Elysian Fields, Texas by Pastor Brad Simms.

Pallbearers: Mike Short, Keith Earl, Mike Mayfield, Jerry Carter and honorary pallbearer, Billy Tucker.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Golden Rule Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Elysian Fields Cemetery in Elysian Fields or a charity of your choice.
