Obituary

Funeral services for Jewell Marie Peteet, 91, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 23, 2015, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Liberty Cemetery, Diana, Texas. A time of visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Downs Funeral Home. Sweet Mimi Marie Peteet passed away peacefully in her home on February 20, 2015. Mom was born to Walter and Buna Jackson on December 29, 1923. Mom was the youngest of five children. Dewey, Troy, Alvin and Roy were the brothers and one sister, Mildred. Mother grew up in Marion County, and graduated from Jefferson High. After high school, mom went to Ft. Worth and worked for Montgomery Ward in the typing pool. As soon as Dad, John C. Peteet, got back from the war, he drove to Ft. Worth and had mom load up all her things because they were going to marry and live in Marshall. They did. Mom and Dad lost twin boys, but then had John C. Peteet, Jr. and me. Brother and I grew up in a Godly home thanks to Sweet Marie. We lost Dad in 1967 to heart complications. I had a serious motorcycle accident in July, 1972. Brother returned from the Viet Nam War, and was killed in a truck accident on January 25, 1973. Through all of this, Sweet Marie Peteet remained strong in the Lord. My strength during my four years of recovering from my accident was from my Mom, the guiding light that led me to accept Christ as my Lord and Savior. Mother was strong in the Lord and would witness to almost anyone anywhere. After losing Dad at the age of 40, Brother at 24 and almost me at 22, Mom remained very positive and drew her strength from the Lord. With a "Sweet" Marie smile, kind words and a desire to share Christ with anyone she met. Mom would always say, "May the Lord Bless You and Keep You! May no evil, sin or harm come your way." Sweet Marie Peteet, a fine lady, a warrior for Christ and an absolute wonderful mother and Godly Friend. Mom has three granddaughters to remember her sweetness, Cassie Peteet Venn, Stacy Barry and Allison MacErchen, and five great grandchildren, Olivia, Taryn, Matthew, Kemper and Ava. I would like to thank Barbara Rogers for taking such excellent care of my mom. She was not only mom's caregiver, but became our family friend.
