Funeral services for Jewell Williams, 97, of DeBerry will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2017 in the chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Pastor D.J. Nelson officiating. Mrs. Williams passed away March 26, 2017 in Carthage.

She was born July 13, 1919 in Long Branch, Texas, the daughter of Bonnie and Nomia Fite Fletcher. Jewell was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church in DeBerry, Texas where she sang in the church choir. She was also a member of Eastern Star. Jewell worked for Elysian Fields ISD in the cafeteria for a number of years and then later in the Carthage hospital cafeteria.

Surviving Jewell are step-daughter, Mildred Wall of Carthage; grandchildren, Linda Pippins and husband Cedric, and James E. Roberson, Jr. all of DeBerry; two sisters, Verlene Fletcher of Dallas and Dorothy Lee Jernigan of Amarillo, TX. She is also survived by a number of great-great grandchildren as well as a number of great-great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Williams and two sons, James Edward Roberson and James Clifford Roberson.
