A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Pope City Baptist Church. Bro. Craig Evers will officiate the service. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time at Pope City Baptist Church.

James Richard "Jim" Shelton started eternity with the Lord on February 10, 2021. He was born on March 19, 1941 in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon to Charles Dempsey Shelton and Jane Elizabeth Cox Shelton. He and his family father, step-mother, Ina Lucille Moen Shelton, brothers, Robert and Danny Shelton, moved to the area of Houston, Texas in 1950. He was a graduate of Reagan High School in Houston in June of 1959, received a BBA from the University of Houston in 1965, a JD from South Texas College of Law in 1967 and passed the Texas State Bar exam in 1967. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves while in high school in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1964. He practiced law primarily in the Houston area, from 1967 to 2014, being a member of various bar associations and groups. He attended Trinity Episcopal Church, in Marshall, Texas after he and Jeanette moved there in October, 2014 to be closer to their son and granddaughters. He is survived by Jeanette, his loving wife of 54 years; their son, James R. "Rich" Shelton, Jr. and his wife, Michelle Shelton; granddaughters, Madelyn Michelle Shelton and Brooklyn Marie Shelton; two brothers, Robert Shelton and Danny Shelton; and nieces and nephews.
