Jim
Wyman
Mar 1, 1946 — Sep 26, 2025
Hallsville
Jim Wyman, 79, of Hallsville, Texas peacefully passed away September 26, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Jim Wyman, born March 1, 1946, grew up in Jackson, Michigan as the eldest child of Ernest and Annette Wyman. As a boy, Jim enjoyed sports and outdoor activities with his family including his twin sisters Joan and Jane and youngest sister Martha. A fond memory was family trips to the Lake Huron shore where Jim would fish and enjoy the beach. Upon graduation from Saint Mary High School, Jim joined the U.S. Air Force to serve his country in Vietnam. It was during his time at Barksdale AFB that he met Marilyn (nee Summers) his life companion of 60 years. Jim and Marilyn corresponded throughout his time overseas and married shortly after his return. Jim's Michigan family attended the wedding hosted by Marilyn's parents Wilbur and Kathryn Summers on August 12, 1967 in Shreveport, La.
Once his service commitment was completed, Jim and Marilyn made their home in Jackson, Michigan where Jim joined the Jackson Police force and the family grew with the birth of Nick and Greg. Jim and Marilyn would "double date" with sister Jane and husband Jim Brown. Nick and Greg would get to spend those evenings with their daughters Jen and Stephanie. During this time, a favorite activity was snowmobiling and hunting for deer and pheasant with friends.
In 1978, the family relocated to Marshall where Jim worked at Panola Harrison Co-Op and Marilyn worked in banking. The move reunited Jim and Marilyn with the Summers side of the family and included weekly family dinners at the home of Marilyn's parents with brother Morris Summers. As the boys grew up, Jim coached soccer and baseball teams and attended many games.
Morris' marriage to Emma expanded the family to nephew Dusty Haggard (Tina) and niece Jamie Goode.
Despite the distance, Jim remained close with his sisters. He particularly followed the sports results of Martha and husband Joe's children Joe, Caitlin, and Kevin as they played hockey, basketball, and football.
In 2001, Nick and wife Tina moved to Marshall and Jim became "Papa" to grandchildren Matthew, Jenny and Kurt. In the next year, Greg and wife Leslie moved to Kansas City, KS with granddaughter Kaci. Jim and Marilyn enjoyed visits to Kansas City and soon welcomed granddaughter Lauren. On one visit, Jim and Greg assembled the girls' backyard playset and enjoyed watching them play. Kaci and Lauren's cheer competitions were closely followed.
Jim worked hard to support his growing family, but always maintained his hobby of making custom furniture, a passion inherited from his grandfather Tony and Uncle Frank. A highlight of his life was the fulfillment of his dream to open a woodworking shop which he operated from 1995 until his passing. Many of Jim's projects fill the homes of family members and clients today.
Jim and Marilyn enjoyed traveling to our great National Parks, always travelling by car to "see the country". Their travels included all parts of the U.S. from Key West, FL to Alaska and San Diego, CA to Labrador and Newfoundland Canada. They particularly enjoyed Glacier National Park making several return trips. Even when home, the road atlas remained nearby planning their next adventure.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date. The family is grateful for the care provided in recent months by the devoted team at PrimeCare Hospice
