Jo Anne
Imhof
Aug 9, 1931 — May 15, 2023
Marshall
Jo Anne Prothro Imhof 91, of Marshall, Texas was born on August 9, 1931, in Marshall, Texas to her parents, Jean Mac Prothro and Frances Haddock Prothro. Mrs. Imhof passed away on May 15, 2023, in Marshall, Texas, where she grew up.
She attended nursing school at Shreveport Charity Hospital after high school graduation. She was a nurse at Marshall Hospital until she met and married Alvin George (Ted) Imhof and started a family. They moved around frequently, living in company housing until settling in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, home of the company headquarters. While raising her two children, Mrs. Imhof studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts, then continued her graduate studies at Governor's State University, receiving a Master of Fine Arts. She was a gifted and prolific multi-media artist working in watercolor, oil, acrylic, pen and ink, chalk, and printmaking. She had many art exhibits, and taught art lessons to the young and old. She also worked as a Nurse Therapist for several inpatient alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers. She retired and moved to Caddo Lake with her husband in 1987. She owned and operated Mossy Brake Art Gallery along with her husband and son. The Gallery brought in many well-known artists for weekend workshops on beautiful Caddo Lake. She and her husband moved to Oakwood House in Marshall in 2019. Jo Anne loved getting lost in her art, being on the water, traveling the U.S. in a camper van, sampling regional food, Scrabble, dancing, laughing, and getting the whole family together for meals.
She is survived by her son, Joel Scott Imhof, daughter, Barbara Imhof Frazell, sister Dorothy Prothro Grant, sister Brenda Prothro, and so much extended family.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Andrews Cemetery.
