Jo Ann "Jodie" Blalock Brelsford died on April 3, 2014 in Shreveport, LA, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Homer George Brelsford, her son, Richard George Brelsford, and her parents, Bertha Storey Blalock and Myron Geer Blalock. Jodie is survived by her daughter, Linda Mary Brelsford McCutchen, of Houston, TX, and by her son, Mark Gates Brelsford and his wife, Joellyn Crenshaw Brelsford, of Dripping Springs, TX. Jodie lived a long and happy life and was a devoted wife and mother. She fiercely loved her children and she unselfishly served as the primary caregiver for her husband for eight years during an extended illness. Jodie lived in Shreveport for fifty years, and she was a very active member of the First Methodist Church, where she worked for many years delivering flowers to church members. Jodie was a caring and kind person who was interested in the welfare of others. Always thinking of everyone besides herself, she had a running list of those that needed a kind word or a hug, and she delivered that comfort to others on a daily basis. She loved her family farm and the deep forests of East Texas. Over the years, Jodie learned much about the business of oil and gas production and commercial timber farming, and she enjoyed sharing her knowledge with others on these subjects. She also loved animals, including her cat, Buffer, and the cats and dogs of her children. Jodie was a voracious reader of newspapers, and often shared clippings with friends and family from her reading. The funeral service will be Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 2 PM at First Methodist Church in Shreveport, LA. A graveside service will follow at 4 PM at the cemetery of the Grange Hall Methodist Church in Marshall, TX. Pallbearers are the nephews and great nephews Jodie held so dear: Bob Campbell, Scott Campbell, Gregg Campbell, Tabor Campbell, Myron Blalock III, Myron Blalock IV, Bill Brelsford, Gates Brelsford, and George Brelsford. The family extends special thanks to Jodie's long-time caregivers, Shirley Lacour and Sharon Maple, to Dr. Alan Borne for his devoted medical care for Jodie, and the staff at the Willis Knighton Pierremont Hospital. Memorial donations can be made to any of Jodie's favorite charities, including the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the Salvation Army and the Shreveport SPCA.
