A funeral service for JoAnn Covey, 78, of Marshall, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 20, 2022, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home in Marshall, Texas. Interment will follow at Algoma North Cemetery.

She was born on July 17, 1943, in Dallas, Texas to Lester and Inez Huckaby and passed away on January 14, 2022, in Marshall, Texas.

She attended school in Dallas, Texas. She married Norman Covey on September 4, 1963, in Dallas, Texas and they had two daughters, Norma and Sheri Covey. The family moved to Marshall, Texas in 1978. Together they remodeled an old homestead. The enjoyed building their lives and family in their new country setting. Their favorite pastime was sitting together on the porch and watching the birds in the evenings. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for many years. Norman went to be with the Lord on May 8, 2011, and JoAnn joined him on January 14, 2022.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman "Butch" Covey; daughter, Sheri Harper; son-in-law, Kerry Mears; grandson, Matthew Mears and two brothers, Eugene Huckaby and spouse, Julie and William Loftis.

She is survived by her daughter, Norma Mears; grandchildren, Chris Mears, Melinda Perich, Covey Beaird, Carson Harper, Hunter Harper and Ashley Reed; great grandchildren, Marleigh Mears, Madelyn Mears, John Perich, Anslee Reed, Emma Galey and Lachlyn Reed as well as other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her honor to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, Texas 75219.
