Oct 10, 1966 — Jul 21, 2026
Marshall
Jodie Sooter, 59, passed away on July 21, 2026. Born on October 10, 1966, Jodie lived a life defined by hard work, unwavering loyalty, generosity, and a deep love for his family, friends, and the outdoors.
A 1985 graduate of Marshall High School, Jodie went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University in 1989. He dedicated 33 years of service to a local chemical plant before recently retiring.
On July 27, 1996, Jodie married the love of his life, Linda McGeorge. Together they shared nearly 30 wonderful years of marriage and were eagerly anticipating celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary on July 27.
Jodie was preceded in death by his father, Jake Sooter; his brother, Robbie Sooter; his brother-in-law, Lee McGeorge; his father-in-law, Jack McGeorge; and his sister-in-law, Susan McGeorge Cox.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 29 years, Linda McGeorge Sooter; his mother, Doris Grimes; his sister, Edie Holland, and husband, David; his mother-in-law, Kathryn McGeorge; his beloved pets, June and PG; his nephews, Austin Holland, and wife, Colby, Brandon Sooter, Bradley Sooter, and wife, Chris, Peter McGeorge, and Eric Cox; his nieces, Jennah Holland, Anna Barge, and Lindsey McGeorge; his cousin, Mike Jones; his great-nephews and great-nieces, Carson Holland, Lexi Holland, Tate Holland, Kaegan Boaze, Jaycie Garcia, Sawyer Kate Barr, Stella Barge, Lincoln Barge, Samuel Sooter, and Lucas Sooter; along with many treasured friends and neighbors whose lives were enriched by his kindness and friendship.
Jodie found his greatest joy outdoors. Whether hunting, fishing, or simply caring for the wildlife on his property by feeding deer, turtles, fish, ducks, and geese, he had a profound appreciation for nature. One of his greatest pleasures was sharing that passion with children over the years, teaching them how to hunt, fish, and appreciate the beauty of the outdoors.
Those who knew Jodie will remember his generous spirit and genuine heart. He never missed an opportunity to check on neighbors and friends with an unexpected phone call or visit, often sharing heartfelt stories that left everyone laughing. His loyalty was unmatched and he was the kind of man who would truly give the hat off his head or the coat off his back to anyone in need. His kindness, compassion, and selflessness left a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Jodie's honor to Marshall Pet Adoption Center, 2502 East Travis St., Marshall, Texas 75672.
Though his time here ended far too soon, Jodie's legacy of kindness, generosity, loyalty, and love for family, friends, animals, and the outdoors will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
