John Michael Banks (Mike) passed away the morning of April 20, 2023, at the age of 71 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on March 5, 1952, in Pampa, Texas to John and Helen Banks who preceded him in death. Mike was a teacher and wood worker who loved animals dearly.  He adored his cat, Random, and often referred to his son's dog, Abel, as his own. He also loved listening to and singing along with old country music, and in his younger days he played guitar and sang in a band. In his later years he had a particular fondness for the TV station, GRIT, where he rewatched old westerns for hours. He had an almost insatiable appetite for ice cream, his favorite treats being fudgesicles and Whataburger chocolate malts, but really anything cold and sweet would do. He enjoyed spending time with his family and always asked about his grandchildren and the big and little things in their lives.

Mike is survived by his children Lori (Brian) Barrow of Benton, Louisiana, Julia (Barrett) Benoit of Frisco, Texas, Brian Banks of Shreveport, Louisiana, his grandchildren Belle, Brennan, Georgiana, Tess, Everett, Katherine, and Helena, and his beloved best friend, Vicki Banks. A Memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Waskom located in Waskom, Texas on May 22, 2023, at 3:00 PM .
