John Oliver Jr. was born October 29, 1950, to John Oliver Sr. and Ruth Perkins Oliver in Marshall, Texas. John accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Marshall, Tx.

He attended H.B Pemberton in Marshall, Tx. After high school, he pursued a career working with the Railroad Commission. He obtained multiple certifications throughout his 34-year career as Train Master and Deputy of the Railroad Commission. He had a passion for flying airplanes and reconstructing cars. He loved his family, cookouts, talking on the phone and spending time with his sisters, and special moments with the grandchildren.

He was united in marriage to Carol Reeves Oliver. December 1966 to 1984. To this union two children were born. Yolonda Oliver and John Oliver III. He later was united in marriage in 1986 to Shirley Reed Oliver until her death. August 31, 1996, John United in marriage to Mechelle Roberts Oliver.

John departed this life March 6, 2023, in Longview, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Ruth Oliver, Sr., and Janie Oliver (sister), Dennis Roy Oliver Sr.(brother), Gayl Oliver (sister), Shirley Reed Oliver(spouse), Mechelle Roberts Oliver(spouse) and Yolonda Oliver (daughter).

He leaves to cherish his memories one son John Oliver III (Tonya) of Dallas, two sisters Carrie Oliver Evans (Lance) and Shirley Oliver Jones, 5 grandchildren (Kristopher Oliver, John Oliver IV, Paige Oliver, MacKenzie Oliver, Alexis Shannon), 2 great grandchildren (Kayden Jackson, Alaya Jackson) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was loved and cherished by many.

A memorial service in his honor will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2023, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home.
