John Morgan Purnell Funeral services for John Morgan Purnell, "Pops", 61, of Woodlawn, TX, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 9, 2014, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Croley officiating. Interment will follow in Pope City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Saturday, November 8, 2014, at Downs Funeral Home. John Morgan passed away November 4, 2014. John Morgan Purnell was born August 31, 1953 in Marshall, TX to John O. and Betty Thompson Purnell. He was a graduate of Marshall High School. On July 8, 1972, John Morgan married Janet Betts. He was co-owner of Marshall Farm & Ranch for 36 years. John Morgan was also co-owner of Hermitage Farm since 1964. He was baptized on January 31, 1971 and became a lifelong member of Pope City Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching Yankees baseball. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Surviving John Morgan Purnell are his wife, Janet Purnell; his parents, John and Betty Purnell; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Mike Jones; grandchildren, Kaelie Jones and Bryar Jones; brother, Albert Purnell and wife Linda, all of Woodlawn, TX; and niece, Carolyn Purnell of Chicago, IL. Pallbearers will be Mike Jones, Bryar Jones, Cal Gaines, Kyle Furrh, Tony Whitlow and Randy Sanders.
