John Mulholland A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. John Mulholland, 79, of Marshall will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday December 23, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Denzil Vithanage officiating. Interment will follow in St Joseph Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary was said at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday December 22, 2010 at Downs Funeral Home. Mr. Mulholland passed away Tuesday December 21, 2010 in Marshall. John Mulholland was born January 17, 1931 in Marshall to Charles Lee Mulholland and Marie Spinner Mulholland. He was a lifelong active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. John was a 62 year member of Knights of Columbus Council #1422, a 38 year member of Alcoholics Anonymous Marshall Group, a faithful supporter of Meals on Wheels, supporter of the 12 way foundation and lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1949 and served 21 years retiring as Tech SGT in 1970 including time spent in the Pentagon. After retiring from the Air Force, he was employed by Oak Haven Recovery Center for many years. Surviving John are three sisters, Agnes M. Verhalen of Scottsville, Pat M. Denk and husband Hank of San Antonio and Sally M. Murphey also of San Antonio and nieces and nephews, Philip Verhalen, Mary Lou Reeves, Charles Verhalen, Joe Verhalen, Joanie Campbell, Frances Verhalen Smith, Patsy Powers, Marie Mead, Sarah Mazur, Susan Denk, Charlie Denk, Jenny Leininger, Cathy Murphey and Caroline Bearfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, C.L. and Marie Mulholland; brother, MSGR. Charles L. Mulholland; nephew, Joe Denk and niece, Patty Murphey. Serving as pallbearers will be John Verhalen, III, Kevin Verhalen, Jason Reeves, Christopher Campbell, Don Smith and Joe Verhalen. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Richard, George Livers, KC Council 1422 members and Alcoholics Anonymous Marshall Group. The family especially thanks Dr. Nirmal, Hearts Way Hospice and East Texas Easter Seals caregivers, Rhonda Sanders and Gloria Jones.
