John Edward Philpot was born on November 17, 1938 in Waskom, Texas to Ambrose Edward Clifton "Bill" Philpot and Mary Annie Francis Hendrick Philpot. He was a graduate of Waskom High School. He married Delores Jean Fowler on June 15, 1957 in Waskom. Mr. Philpot was the owner and operator of Philpot Grocery, retiring from his family business in 1992. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waskom, was a Waskom School Board Member for a number of years. He loved watching his grandsons play sports, fishing with his wife, and playing video games with his wife and grandkids. He also enjoyed spending time on their houseboat and was meticulous about keeping his lawn manicured. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-six years, Delores Jean Philpot of Waskom; daughters, Tammy Philpot Slade and husband Chuck, and Jeannie Philpot Carter and husband Wayne, all of Waskom; seven sisters and brothers, Myrtle Ruth Maxey of Waskom, Andrew Allen Philpot and wife Nancy Jo of Marshall, Nellie B. Summers of Waskom, Tommy Lee Philpot and wife Pam of Waskom, Bobby Ray Philpot of Freeport, Annie May Philpot Britt and husband Sam of Waskom, and Billie Mack Philpot and wife Kim, also of Waskom. Also surviving Mr. Philpot are his grandchildren, Lagina Danielle Reeves and husband Joe of Longview, Trace Carter, and John Ty Carter of Waskom, and great grandchildren, Jacob, Josh and Ava Lewis, Ashley, Kiley, Logan and Aiden Reeves, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins,extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson Charles Edward "CJ" Slade.
