Obituary

John Henry Scasta was born June the 18th of 1928 in the city of Tabor in Brazos County Texas. His mother was Ellie Josie Blazek Scasta and his dad was John Robert Scasta. He has 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Cynthia Janek, Bill and Delma Scasta, Lonnie and Bobbie Scasta, Fran and Frank Walton and a bunch of nephews and nieces.

He grew up in the small community of Wheelock Texas, and he went to school in Franklin Texas. He graduated from high school and joined the army on 11 Dec 1945. He said he and his dad went to school to get him out and then to the army and signed up. This was in the middle of the school year. He went to communications school in the service and after graduating from school he served 2 years in the Panama Canal. He was a Sargent in the army. He was honorably discharged on 21 Dec 1948.

John worked at Swepco until his retirement and then John and Ruth started traveling around the country. The year that John retired they spent 62 days traveling around Alaska. They had a group of friends who were always ready to travel and anyone of them would suggest a trip and they were off. They typically spent 6 weeks in the spring and 6 weeks in the fall on the road seeing America. They traveled and saw as much of the United States as they could. They loved life and their time spent together.

John loved to fish, and he said as kids they would go down to the Navasota river and spend weekends there fishing with his grandfather. He continued this love for his whole life. While they were moving around chasing jobs they would go fishing in the Pecos and other rivers and creeks in Texas.

Dad taught us to work hard and that there are no free and easy ways in life. One of the main things that has carried us through life is that we work hard together and we have fun doing it. The satisfaction of a job well done is immensely self-gratifying.

Dad taught us to love God. He served the church of the Nazarene for over fifty years in Marshall. He gave as a servant would give, he gave of his time to see the church grow and spent time making repairs and doing anything that needed to be done to make the church successful. He gave of his money to see that the church's needs were met from a monetary standard. He gave of his willingness to serve Christ for the greater good of humanity. He recognized that there is more to life than what is contained in this world, if you only consider your day to day and not the future of eternity then you totally missed out. There are too many ways to see the beauty and the handiwork of God in everyday things.

Papa John showed us how to live life and he has shown us how to die. What is amazing as we watched his life wind down is the wqy God has this plan as the old body is worn out and starts shutting down in preparation for the new beginning on the other side of life, it is an agonizing looking process for those of us left on this side, but for the one preparing to leave this old world it is a natural process of steps.

John Henry Scasta loved life and he lived it well. He was a man, a father, a dad, a friend, a brother, a husband, a lover, a handyman, a mechanic, and he set a standard that one could use as a pattern for life.

So as we go forward this should be a celebration for another race, was run well and his reward awaits him, he has a new address in the city of angels in the country of angels in the country of heaven where he gets to meet with his Lord and savior on a daily basis, this is true as the bible says. He will see the love of his life Lena Ruth again when he crosses that great divide.

John was preceded in death by the love of his life Lena Ruth in 2019.

He is survived by his children Joan Renae and Doug Lynde, John Delwyn and Becky Ann Scasta and Ronald Morris and Becky Lee Scasta. He is survived by 8 grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren and several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

He is loved and will be missed.
