John Philip Verhalen III was born on June 5, 1979 in San Antonio, TX to Philip and Carolyn Verhalen. He graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He made his career around his passion for aviation. He loved being a pilot and took pleasure in sharing this adventure with others, particularly those new to flying. He made it a point to put others' needs ahead of his own and did everything he could to help anyone in any manner. His love for friendships is evident by the continual communication with his friends from all over the world. He was very active: he played soccer throughout his life and made it a priority to take a yearly ski vacation with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Medina Verhalen. He is survived by his father and grandfather, Philip Verhalen, stepmother, Sharon Calhoun Verhalen, and grandmothers Agnes Verhalen and Marie Medina. In addition, there are 6 uncles, 5 aunts, and 15 cousins, and numerous friends and other family. Pallbearers for John Verhalen will be Joseph Cantu, David Cason, Daniel Cavin, Jonathan Crittenden, Matthew Larcom, Joseph Mehring.
