Johnny Mack Davis was born in Bessemer, Alabama to Jacob and Daisy Davis on April 15th, 1958. He was the baby boy of ten children. He just turned 62 years old before he went to be with the Lord on April 30th, 2020. To many friends he was known as Mack, to his siblings it was Mackie, his kids knew him as Pops and to his grandson, he was Pop Pop.
Johnny Mack attended Wiley College in Marshall, Texas in the early 80s. While at Wiley, he joined the Alpha Psi Alpha Fraternity, where he developed many lifelong friendships. He also worked at the Marshall Police Department as a Police Officer for a number of years. Johnny Mack was also a Teacher in New York and a security guard in Alabama as well as for Marshall P.D.
While back home in Alabama, he started his own business "Handy hands". Around 2011, he decided to move back to Texas to be closer to his son Jacob, daughter in law Whitney and his new grandson, Jacob Jr. He brought Handy Hands with him where his son Jacob worked along with him. During his later years, he went to work for the Harrison County Sheriff's Office as a Jailer up until his illness.
Johnny Mack was a member at Center Hill Free Will Baptist Church in Marshall, Tx, where he later became a Co-Pastor. He loved God and he absolutely loved spending time with him while praising him at home and at Church.
Here are some things you may not know about my father-in-law. He absolutely loved his family. As well as the ones he accumulated along the way, a few kids and grandkids. It didn't matter if he didn't father those children. They weren't stepkids to him, they were his very own. He treated them like they belonged to him. He enjoyed every minute of time that God blessed him with to be with his family and friends. He loved you all very much & spoke highly of you.
He was a black belt in karate, enjoyed staying fit and working out with his swords. He loved the outdoors and liked to tend to his garden. He loved animals and helping others whenever he could. He really enjoyed going to flea markets and garage sales when he had the time. He was famous for jumping in the car and going wherever the road would take him. He liked different types of music, some of his favorites were Jazz, Country and R&B. He also loved to barbecue to bring family and friends together. Lastly as everyone knows he was a coffee man, he always had a cup in hand.
He is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, one sister and a grandson, Justin Whipple.
He leaves behind his wife, Diane Davis of Elysian Fields, Texas. His sisters Rose Davis of Bessemer, Alabama and Patricia Davis of Charlotte, North Carolina. Two Aunts, an Uncle, Nephews and Nieces. His sons: Jacob (Whitney) Lindsay Sr of Mesquite, Tx and Vondrigeus "Gell" Ash of Bessemer, Alabama, along with his extra children, Angel Espinoza of Marshall, Tx, Nina Ashley of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Michael (Lea) Dalton of Marshall, Tx, TJ Perry of Uncertain, Tx and Cynthia Counts of Elysian Fields, Tx.
